Cars in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were contacted by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say initial examinations show the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.

A senior representative commented the attack rendered him without words and required to be solved quickly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
